As narrated in a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this," and he held his two fingers together to emphasize the significance of the act.
As mentioned in the Quran, "Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [ Allah's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing." (Surah Al-Tawbah, 103).
